Press release #1
Following assessments done yesterday and this morning by our maintenance personnel regarding snow build up on roofs of school buildings, it appears that a specific number of them are at a moderate to important risk level. The evacuation of all CSDM schools is presently in progress.
Therefore, we have decided to evacuate all school buildings by applying the CSDM’s emergency measures policy since the engineers could not guarantee zero risk. All students and staff members are directed towards predetermined safety shelters. We are asking for the cooperation of parents and family members in this matter. All safety shelters have been clearly indicated on all school doors. A telephone information line has been set up to reach all parents.
All school buildings shall remain closed today, this weekend as well as next Monday. On Monday, a further assessment will take place. All activities are thereby suspended.
To complete this necessary snow removal operation, a few more days might be required.
For further information, please visit the CSDM’s web site at www.csdm.qc.ca and/or all voice mails.
To ensure the safety of all students and staff members, the CSDM relies on the cooperation of all personnel, students as well as parents.
Let us point out that the CSDM counts 90 000 students divided in 128 Elementary Schools, 34 High Schools, 5 Schools offering both Elementary and Secondary levels, 16 Adult Education Centres and 9 Vocational Training Centres.
